So Inkleined Consulting LTD, owned and operated by David Klein, is no longer trading.

David’s IT career spans over twenty years.  Shortly after graduating from Kent State University in 1999, he began working for 24/7 Media in Vienna, Virginia. 24/7 Media (now WPP’s 24/7 Real Media) is one of the world’s largest online advertising and marketing companies.  While he was there, he helped expand and support their Operations infrastructure in data centers across the United States for two years. At the time, 24/7 had the third largest reach on the internet behind MSN and Yahoo and the world’s largest opt-in email database for direct marketing.

In 2001, just after moving to Germany, David began working for Electronic Data Systems Operations GmbH. This is the German sister company of EDS, the American blue chip, IT outsourcing giant (now HP DXC). Over his six years there, he was responsible for some of the most complex UNIX servers and super-computers in the world, not to mention the Automotive industry’s most powerful super-computing cluster. More specifically, he built GM Europe’s server build automation environment for Solaris and AIX and wrote and supported many customer specific scripts and applications for configuration management and capacity planning, far ahead of today’s SRE practices. He was the subject matter expert for Samba (CIFS file sharing services) and did GM’s first Active Directory integration for Samba. He also did the world’s first deployment of IBM’s HSM (Hierarchical Storage Manager) on JFS2.

Then in 2007, he came to London where he began to work for Deutsche Bank. There, he was a Team Lead, Assistant Vice President and Senior UNIX Administrator responsible for DB’s UK based production infrastructure. He managed a small team of 3 that looked after the “Utilities” environment. This was an “ahead of its time” infrastructure as a service platform (PaaS) where clients paid simply for the resources they consumed on the platform rather than procure physical infrastructure. He was also specifically responsible for the AIX environment, before the administration function was re-located to Frankfurt. In his last year at DB, he managed the Solaris Hosting Service. This was probably the worlds largest deployment of Solaris 10 zones and therefore one of the worlds largest virtualized UNIX environments. It consisted of highly scalable, highly utilized and highly available environments.

Three years later, David was recruited by Sainsbury’s, the UK’s 3rd largest retailer (£27 Billion in annual revenue). He took a position as the UNIX Infrastructure Team Lead, managing a team of 9 to procure, provision and support their UNIX infrastructure. After being very hands-on and technical  his whole career, this role had David spending most of his time in meetings and was very hands-off. To get back working more with technology, he decided to leave Sainsbury’s and Team Leading to pursue a more technical and technically focused company and role.

After leaving Sainsbury’s, David briefly worked at Intralinks, the industry leader in providing SaaS solutions for Secure Data Vaults, most often used in the Mergers and Acquisitions and Life Sciences industries.  Though a very interesting sector, he ultimately decided to leave and begin his career as an IT Consultant.

In October 2012, David established So Inkleined Consulting LTD to offer Enterprise UNIX and Linux consulting in the Greater London area.
